“Silent Scream: A Novel” is one the best and most entertaining novels with a very unique and impressive story. The first one in the Detective Inspector Kim Stone series, Silent Scream is by far one of the best written crime novels.
A captivating read with a thick plot and well-developed characters with each their unique personalities that somehow complement each other. D. I. Kim stone has had a troubled childhood, to say the least, and grew up in the system from a very young age. Instead of letting her demons swallow her, she fights them every day, keeping them at bay by focusing on her work; catching the bad guys.
Silent Scream is a not one but two sets of multiple murders, that happened a decade apart but couldn’t be more related to each other. Our D.I. Stone’s job is to catch the killer of the murders happening in here. When she tries to find the M.O. of our killer she discovers the dark secrets of the recently departed that connected them all.
Though all of the characters in the book are quite interesting, my favorites are Brian and Kim (no surprise there). In fact, there are times when I prefer Brian to Kim, for his strength to keep up with Kim and still remain calm and smiling at the end of the day. The chemistry between these two is so rare and refreshing.
They are not lovers, they are not family, they are colleagues who have become friends over the course of time. There is no sexual tension of any kind between Kim and any of her team members. It is so good to read a book without a love story running on the sidelines.
