Author Clint Smith Description
Clint Smith is a staff writer at The Atlantic and the author of HOW THE WORD IS PASSED, a narrative nonfiction book, and COUNTING DESCENT, a poetry collection that won the 2017 Literary Award for Best Poetry Book from the Black Caucus of the American Library Association and was an NAACP Image Award finalist. New America, the Art For Justice Fund, Cave Canem, and the National Science Foundation have all given Clint scholarships.
His work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Poetry Magazine, and The Paris Review, among other publications. At the DC Central Detention Facility, he presently teaches writing and literature. He graduated from Davidson College with a B.A. in English and Harvard University with a Ph.D. in Education.
