Demon Copperhead PDF Summary

“Anyone will tell you the children of this world are destined to succeed or fail from the moment they are conceived.”The southern Appalachian mountains serve as the backdrop for Demon Copperhead. The protagonist of this narrative is a young man who was raised by his teenage mother in a single-wide trailer, despite the fact that he inherited his late father’s excellent looks, copper-colored hair, caustic wit, and fierce talent for survival.

Foster care, child labor, abandoned schools, athletic success, addiction, tragic loves, and shattering losses are just some of the modern dangers he faces in this relentlessly moving narrative told from his own unflinching perspective. All the while, he has to face the fact that he is invisible in a civilization where even superheroes have forgotten about the people who live outside of the cities.

Charles Dickens, a long-ago survivor of institutional poverty and the harm it caused children in his society, used this knowledge to write David Copperfield. Those issues are still unresolved in our society. A familiarity with Dickens is not necessary to enjoy this story, but he was the source of much of its creative energy.

Barbara Kingsolver takes a Victorian epic and relocates it to the modern American South with the help of Dickens’s rage, compassion, and, most of all, his belief in the transformational power of a good narrative. Demon Copperhead is the voice of a new generation of lads who have been lost and who were born in beautiful, cursed locations they could never leave.
